Dominion Show Choir Camp, please read!!!

The 2nd annual Dominion Summer Show Choir Camp will be held at Clover Hill High School in Midlothian, VA on June 17-21 and June 24-28. Students may attend one or both weeks. The Dominion Summer Show Choir Camp features professionals and educators who excel in the fields of vocal instruction and choreography. Students will have the opportunity to sharpen their individual and group performance skills as they attend choreography and vocal sessions, and will learn a complete show to be performed at the end of each camp week. Workshops for students will provide an opportunity to interact with other show choir enthusiasts while exploring the finer points of dance, vocal technique, and performance skills for show choir.

There will be a camp for High School (rising 9th-12th grade), Middle School (rising 6th-8th grade), and an alumni division for students ages 18-23.  There will also be a camp for Band students who want to play for show choir (rising 9th-12th graders).  

The cost is $150 for each week.  A $75 deposit and your application is due by April 1st.  The application can be found on  http://cloverhillshowchoir.com/dominion-camp-2/ or in the choir room.  Please see Mrs. R with any questions and for further details.  Students who are thinking about trying out for Show Choir should strongly consider attending this camp.

Virginia Consort Choral Academy


The Vrginia Consort Choral Academy is open to all rising 9th graders through recently graduated 12th graders and will be held at St. Anne’s –Belfield School in Charlottesville, VA on June 24th-29th.  The Choir will perform Mozart’s famous Requiem and be conducted by Ms. Judy Gary. Classes will be taught on sightreading, vocal production, audition preparation, conduction, and the alexander technique.  The cost for the week is $300.  Please see Mrs. R in the choir room for an application if you are interested in attending.   Need based scholarships are available.

Directions To Powhatan High School
1800 Jude’s Ferry Road, Powhatan, VA 23139
From the West:
Take rt. 60 (Anderson Highway) east toward Chesterfield. Go through Flat Rock (landmarks are: Sheetz gas station and McDonald’s on the left), and proceed approximately one mile to a stop light. Get in the left lane. The Bank of Powhatan is on the left). Turn left (North) on Jude’s Ferry Road. The large white water tower straight ahead is across the street from Powhatan High School. Go past the water tower and take the second right turn into the bus loop on the North side of the building.
From The East: (Route 288/Midlothian)
From rt. 288, turn west on the Midlothian Turnpike (also known as rt. 60 or Anderson Hwy.) and proceed seven miles. There is a green sign for Powhatan High School on the right just before the traffic light at Jude’s Ferry Road. Turn right (North) at the Bank of Powhatan onto Jude’s Ferry Rd. See above instructions for details.
From the North:
Take I-95 South to I-295 North to I-64 West. Proceed West on I-64 for 1 ½ miles, and take the Rt. 288 South exit. Proceed 12 miles to rt. 60/Midlothian Turnpike (you will see the Westchester Commons mall on the right). Stay in the right lane and the exit will feed you directly onto rt. 60 West toward Powhatan. You are 7 miles from the school at this point. See above directions for details.
From the South:
Take 288 North to rt. 60 West. Proceed 7 miles to the Bank of Powhatan. Follow the signs. See above directions for details.
Everyone: Please DO NOT unload students at the front school entrance. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see a sign over the double door that says “Welcome to the Powhatan Show Choir Classic.”
 
Food/Merchandise
The PHS Choral Boosters will be selling delicious food and concessions throughout the entire event! Please ask your students to be sure to bring plenty of money for food, flowers, shout-outs, 50-50 raffle, tee-shirts and DVD’s of your group’s performance. We are also offering a hospitality room (for directors and bus drivers only) where complimentary food and refreshments will be provided.

Video

Real to Reel Video Inc. will be videotaping all performances. You may purchase DVDs from them at any time during the weekend. If you or your students decide you would like to purchase a video after the weekend, please feel to contact John Scorsone from Real to Reel Video at ascorsone@cox.net

Announcements Feb. 18th...

1. Show Choir will have their first competition on Friday, Feb. 22nd. We will need several parents to chaperone this event. Students and parents are asked to be at Eastern View High School at 9:00am and 9:30pm. We will leave EVHS at 11:30am. Please email me if you are available to chaperone.

3. We need parents who can help sew and iron some outfits and backgrounds for our upcoming show choir competition. Please email Mrs. R if you can help!!

4. We need parents to help iron and steam outfits on Feb. 21st and 22nd. Please email Mrs. R if you can help!!

5. We need water donations for our upcoming competition. Please email Mrs. R if you can donate a case of water.

6. We are still missing money or candy boxes from a few students. Please turn these in ASAP!!

7. Permission Slips will be going home for the following upcoming field trips soon. Please be on the lookout for them to come home for your signature.
-Feb. 22nd- Show Choir Powhatan
-March 9th- Show Choir Clover Hill
-March 14th- Arts Night at EVHS- This event has been canceled.
-March 21st- A cappella and Artistic Choir- Festival

8. The choir room is in need of tissues. Points for choir letters will be given for each box brought in.

9. The candy closet is in need of soda/candy/chips donations. Students accounts will be credited with items that are brought in.

10. Contract and Medical forms are now due. Please turn the forms in ASAP.

11. Choir fees for 2nd semester are now due. T-shirt money is due for A cappella. T-shirts are $17.

Show Choir Rehearsal for Thursday canceled and Info for Powhatan

Show Choir Rehearsal scheduled for 2-21 from 2 to 7 is canceled for tomorrow. Students need to ride the bus home at 1:30pm. All Show Choir women need to report to the choir room at 9am and men need to report at 9:30am. We will leave EVHS around 11:30am for Powhatan. The Address for Powhatan High School is 1800 Judes Ferry Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. The choir performs around 2:30pm. Parents who attend the show without the choir will need to pay a $5 fee to get into the competition.

Powhatan Information Letter


Powhatan Show Choir Classic

Dear Parents or Guardians,

The EVHS Show Choir Innovation students have an amazing opportunity to perform and compete at the annual Powhatan Show Choir Classic on Feb. 22n .  All of the choir students have been rehearsing for this competition during class time and at after school rehearsal .  Students are expected to practice singing and dances at home daily.  Students who do not know their music and dances will not be able to attend this trip. 

Show Choir students will be expected to meet in the EVHS choir room at 9.30 am  in order to have all costumes/ outfits ready for competition.  We will leave EVHS at 11:30am and return around 1am. Students will be prompted to call their rides when we are 30 minutes outside of Culpeper.  Please be on time to pick your student up from EVHS.  All students will need to turn in a permission form and have a medical and contract form on file in order to attend this trip.  Students will need to wear the appropriate attire as listed below for this competition. Students who do not have the proper attire will not attend the field trip. After we have performed students will be able to change into school appropriate clothing and watch the rest of the show. 

Show Choir Attire:

Girs- Purple Sparkle Dress, Tights, Silver Shoes, Silver Spanx, Yellow Dress or Green Dress, Polk a Dot Spanx, Make-up, Earrings

Boys- Grey Suit, White Shirt, Black Shoes, Black Socks, Purple Tie, Army Suit, Army Hat, Belt, Buckle

Chaperones- I will need at least four chaperones for this competition.  All chaperones must be approved by the Culpeper School Board.  If you are not on the approved list and are interested in chaperoning, please email me for a form.  Please email me at trichtar@culpeperschools.org if you are interested chaperoning these events.

Students will need to bring money with them in order to purchase a meal to eat.  We will stop at a fast food establishment on the way to Powhatan in order for students to eat.  Students may also want to purchase food while we are at Powhatan.  Powhatan will have t-shirts and videos for sale.  Please keep this in mind when getting ready for the trip.  While there are no further plans to stop on the way to or from our destination, the bus could stop if an emergency or student need occurs.  

Behavior and Expectations- All Show Choir students are expected to behave in accordance with the Culpeper County School Board Code of Conduct and the EVHS Choir Field Trip Policy found on the EVHS Choir Blog at www.evhschoir.blogspot.org.  Students are expected to be respectful and compliant to everyone, especially chaperones and teachers attending the trip.  Students who defy any of the policies mentioned above will receive a referral and be banned from future choir field trips.

Announcements for 2/11

1. Show Choir will have their first competition on Friday, Feb. 22nd. We will need several parents to chaperone this event. Girls will meet at the choir room at 9am and boys may come at 9:30am.  Girls will be completing their hair and make-up.  All students will get their outfits, music, and props put together.  We will leave EVHS at 11:30am and return close to 1am.  Thanks in advance to all parent volunteers. 

2. Thanks to Rachel Celesky and Kathi Walker for sorting the Little Caesar Pizzas.  Thanks to all parents for picking up the Little Caesar's pizza!! 

3. . All District Choir students will need to check in with first block and report to the choir room on Friday morning.  Please make sure you have your packed lunch, music, water bottle, and a pencil with you.  Dress is School appropriate casual.  We should return to EVHS at 6:30pm.  On Saturday we need to meet at EVHS at 7:15am.  You will need to wear your black and white outfit.  Please bring a packed lunch. music, water bottle, and pencil.  The concert is at 3pm at Fluvanna County High School in Fluvanna, VA.

All District Choir has been postponed to Feb. 15th and 16th due to the weather.
All the times and locations will stay the same next weekend.

All District Choir (inclement weather)

If we are delayed for inclement weather, we will leave for districts after we arrive after we arrive to school.  (Ex. If we are here at 10am, we will leave at 10:15am.)  If school is canceled, we will not attend districts tomorrow.

Announcements for 2/4

1.Little Caesar Fundraiser- The official date for the Little Caesar fundraiser is January 22nd. Little Caesar forms will be due with payment on Friday, Feb. 1st. Orders will be delivered on Tuesday, Feb. 12th. All orders need to be picked up between 12pm and 4:30pm on Feb. 12th. We do not have freezer space to store pizzas here. Thanks for your help with this.

2. Parent Volunteers needed for Feb. 12th. We need around 3 parents to help stack and sort Little Caesar pizzas around 10am on Tuesday, Feb. 12th. Please email Mrs. R if you are able to volunteer.

3. Feb. 12th- Women's A cappella, Men's Acappella, Show Choir Advanced, and Artistic Choir will be having pictures taken on Tuesday, Feb. 12th. Please stay tuned for picture order forms. Show Choir will take pictures in both outfits. Women's A cappella and Men's Ac will take pictures in their t-shirts and their formal outfits. Depending on if outfits are here, the date for Acappella and Artistic Choir pictures may be postponed.

4. Parent Volunteers needed for Feb. 12th. I need a parent volunteer to help get students ready for pictures. The picture times are 1st block, 2nd block, and 4th block. Please let me know if you are able to volunteer.

5. There will be a Ruby Tuesday's Spirit Night on Wednesday, Feb. 6th- Friday, Feb.9th. Please come out and support the choir. This would be a great place to have dinner after our after school rehearsal. Take our orders count too!! Please make sure you tell your waitress or waiter that you are with the choir.
