EVHS Choir Mission Statement, Goals, Classes


Eastern View High School Choir Mission Statement

The Choral Department at Eastern View High School is dedicated to provide all students the access to the development of vocal techniques, the study of different genres of music, the expansion of ensemble skill and higher levels of music theory in order to produce advanced healthy lifelong vocalists and supporters of the choral arts.    

The Goals of The Choral Department are as follows:

-performance excellence

-development of an appreciation of all genres of music

-  development of the singing voice in accuracy of pitch, tone quality, harmonizing

-development of confidence for solo singing and ensemble blend

-development of sight reading skills

-development of an understanding of higher levels of music theory

-recognition of notation in reference to piano keys

-exposure of students to different historical and cultural music literature

-development of skills in cooperation, responsibility, and teamwork

-preparation of all students to become lifelong learners and supporters of the choral arts

-Enjoyment of Singing!!

EVHS Choir Program 2012-2013

 

INTRO TO CHOIR (Concert Choir) 926010

Grade: 9 - 12 Credit: 1

This course provides the opportunity for students to develop an

understanding of varied types of music. Course work will include

listening activities, sight singing, special projects and mandatory

performances. Grades are based on daily participation, posture,

written and singing tests, semester projects, and participation in

mandatory concerts. Emphasis will be placed on improving music

reading skills, music terminology, vocal production, and general

music knowledge. All students will be required to provide their

own performance attire. All students are required to participate

in after school practices and performances.

 

 

ARTISTIC CHOIR (Troubadours) 928010

Grade: 9 - 12 Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

This choir performs many styles of music, ranging from

Renaissance to Twentieth Century, at an artistic level. Course

work will include advanced listening, sight singing, special

projects, and performances. All students in Artistic Choir are

required to provide their own costume and participate in after

school practices and concerts.

 

 

WOMEN’S A’CAPPELLA CHOIR 929710

Grade: 9 – 12 Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

This course gives students the opportunity to develop an

understanding of a’cappella music ranging from the Renaissances

to the latest pop music. This course studies musical elements

such as theory, vocal production, vocal percussion, and balance.

Occasionally choreography may be added to the music. Grades

will be based on daily participation, singing test, special projects,and performance.

All students in Women’s A’Cappella Choir are required to

participate in after school practices and performances.

 

MEN’S A’CAPPELLA CHOIR 929711

Grade: 9 – 12 Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

This course gives students the opportunity to develop an

understanding of a’cappella music ranging from the Renaissances

to the latest pop styles. This course studies musical elements

such as theory, vocal production, vocal percussion, and balance.

Occasionally choreography may be added to the music. Grades

will be based on daily participation, singing test, special projects,and performance.

All students in Men’s A’Cappella Choir are required to participate

in after school practices and performances.

 

 

Show Choir (Innovation)

Grade: 9 – 12 Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

Show Choir is an auditioned mixed choir that is offered to

students in grades 9 through 12. Students will be introduced to a

wide variety of music from jazz to Broadway to the latest pop

music. Course work will include basic music theory, work on vocal

production, basic to advanced choreography, and techniques in

show production. Grades will be based on daily participation, dance tests

singing tests, and performances. All students in Show Choir are

required to provide their own concert attire and to participate in

extra practices and performances

 

Show Choir(Electrified, Women’s)

Grade: 9 – 12 Credit: 1

Prerequisite: Audition & Teacher Recommendation

This course introduces students to the techniques and curriculum offered in Advanced Show Choir.  Coursework will include music theory, work on vocal production, basics to choreography, and techniques for show production. Grades will be based on daily participation, singing and dance tests, and performances. . All students in Show Choir are

required to provide their own concert attire and to participate in

extra practices and performances
